LASER training

LASER clinics

To take out one of our lasers, you will need to be a club member and to pass a laser clinic. The clinic is also for Byte, a boat similar to the Laser but more appropriate for lighter/shorter members. If you wish to enroll in the clinic on a Byte, please email education@sailtoronto.com.

To enroll in a laser clinic, you will need to have obtained your CANSail 1&2.

Training is conducted on our lasers dinghies. Laser Clinics last 5 sessions (2.5 days) and are held generally over two weekends. Here is a typical program:

Thursday (No sailing): Rigging class on lasers
Saturday: Docking, casting off (leaving the dock), basic sailing techniques, capsize recovery.
Sunday: Advanced techniques and intro to racing.

To pass the clinic, you will need to demonstrate the following:

Basic sailboat and sailing knowledge
Departing and returning to our docks
Tacking and gybing
Good sail trim on all points of sail
Capsize recovery

It is possible to old salt your laser clinic if you have substantive experience sailing lasers.
